a lenten poem
teased hair
false lashes
i crowned my pride
in golden sashes

i sang my song
but crumbled
& failed —
a troubling
stumble
for a
nightingale

when wrinkled in sin
wings shrink
necks bend

with ashes on skin
we begin
again

to trust
to sing
to unlearn
to relearn

to remember
we are dust
& to dust
we shall
return
