Let’s get started!

Welcome to my voice studio in Maui, Hawaii!

I am now accepting new students for online lessons beginning July 1st!

Singing lessons are for everyone!

Whether you are a beginner wanting to learn the basics or a seasoned professional wanting to brush up on technique, I would love to help you reach your vocal goals!

If you are contemplating voice lessons I will ask you these questions:

  • Do you love to sing but feel you lack the skills or confidence to perform at your best?
  • Do you want to learn how to sing various styles of music in a healthy way?
  • Do you want to improve your vocal range or smooth out that tricky break in the middle of your voice?
  • Do you have an audition or performance coming up and want to prepare your repertoire and improve your acting skills?
  • Do you want to become a more well-rounded musician and improve your ear training?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, voice lessons are for you!

What to expect

Your body is your instrument in singing. We will always warm up your body and voice before working on the songs you would like to sing. Typically, half of your lesson time will be dedicated to vocal exploration and mastery while the other half focused on performance and stage presence. However, every lesson is different and I am here to work with you and tailor our time to whatever your vocal needs are.

Virtual lessons will be conducted via Skype, Zoom or FaceTime. Please ensure you have adequate wifi for the best experience possible.

Voice Lessons Overview

Note to students and parents

Singing is a vulnerable activity. My studio offers students a non-judgmental space to explore the capabilities of their voice and cultivate control and confidence in their vocal instrument.

I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to work with you or your child in helping to improve vocal skills. I understand that as a mentor and teacher, I have been entrusted to influence your vocal development. This is a responsibility that I take very seriously.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or if you would like additional feedback. I am available anytime to talk outside of lessons. It is a priority for me to have open and honest communication with my students and parents of students.

Lesson Disclaimer

Everyone can learn the technique to sing in a healthy manner. In analyzing beginning singers, there are certain students who come into the studio naturally equipped with the talent to thrive as vocalists and others willing to learn how to get there. Both of these students, if motivated to work, can excel in the art of singing and improve their skills immensely. However, it is important to note that not all students will progress at the same pace. Depending on several factors (i.e. prior musical knowledge, experience, work ethic, natural abilities…) some students may move forward more swiftly, while others may take much longer to make the same progress. There is no right or wrong path to take. Students must be patient in this process as to not get discouraged.

My Teaching Philosophy

As a voice teacher, I have the fortunate opportunity to help each individual student realize their potential, overcome obstacles and reach their vocal goals.

I believe in healthy singing through teaching proper vocal technique. I first talk with the student, assess their voice and determine which exercises will help them in reaching their goals.

I have experience singing Classical, Musical Theatre and Contemporary (pop) styles of music. I believe that “Cross Training” the voice in different styles is an excellent way to strengthening the entire vocal instrument. Overall, I am always striving to help students develop a more balanced vocal range, reliable breath support, increased vocal agility, and improved musicianship in order to establish a solid and healthy vocal foundation that will benefit ANY style of singing!

Studio Policies

Age

  • I accept students ages 6 and up.
  • All students under my instruction will study healthy and age-appropriate material.
  • I require my students to be at least 13 years of age before beginning to study Classical or Musical Theatre techniques. Vocal maturity does not begin until puberty (ages 11-14 for girls and 12-16 for boys). The immature voice is delicate and can be harmed by trying to produce an adult sound.

Scheduling

  • I have availability for lessons Monday – Friday 8am – 7pm Pacific Island Time and weekends by request.
  • Students may schedule on a lesson-by-lesson basis or in advance at the beginning of each month.
  • I accept bookings in person, via email or phone (text or call).

Payment

  • Payment is due at either the beginning of each lesson (if scheduling individually) or at the beginning of the month (if scheduling in advance).
  • For in-person lessons I accept cash (exact change please), Venmo, PayPal, iPay, or personal check. For virtual lessons, payment is online.
  • Payment for lessons does NOT include additional materials and/or sheet music needed for lessons.

Cancellations and Rescheduling

  •  All cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to scheduled lesson. Student will be responsible for payment of lesson otherwise.
  •  If you have paid in advance and wish to reschedule, the payment will be put towards your next scheduled lesson. Again, please contact me at least 24 hours prior to scheduled lesson if you wish to reschedule. Otherwise, the student will be responsible for payment of missed lesson.

Illness

  • Students should not attend lessons if they are sick.
  • I reserve the right to send a student home if they arrive ill to a lesson.

Visitors

  • Parents are welcome to observe lessons with the student’s permission.
  • Visitors in lessons can create an uncomfortable environment for certain students, making it very difficult for them to relax and learn. Please keep this in mind when deciding to visit your child’s lesson.
  • Please be considerate when sitting in on a lesson. Visitors should be quiet and respectful of the student’s time and myself.

Studio Etiquette

Punctuality

  • Students should arrive at the time of their scheduled lesson.
  • If the student arrives late without prior notice, the lesson will still end at the scheduled time; especially if another student’s lesson will follow.
  • If the student arrives early for lesson, while another student’s lesson is wrapping up, he or she is expected to wait quietly for the previous lesson to conclude.

Practicing

  • In my studio, students will learn how to effectively use practice time.
Students should practice daily, even if for only 10 minutes.
  • I require that students practice between lessons. We cannot move forward with study if practicing has not taken place.
  • Beginning students should practice for small durations at a time until voice is strong enough to work for longer periods.
  • I will provide a practice log for students to use in practice and review in lessons.

Clothing

  • Students should wear clothing and footwear that he or she feels comfortable moving in.
  • Clothes should not be too baggy, as I should be able to easily observe the student’s breath and posture.
  • If preparing for an audition, I will ask the student to come to lessons in the dress and footwear that he or she plans to perform their audition in.

  • Recording devices are always encouraged in the studio to assist students in practice. Students may use their smartphones for this purpose.
